The Ensemble was founded in 1990 by Uruguayan bandoneon player, Romulo Larrea, described by the press as the one through whom tango took root in Montreal. More than 40 years have passed since Larrea began his artistic activities in Montreal with the first Canadian tango group, Tango x 4. The Ensemble's repertoires have been inspired by traditional tango as well as by contemporary tango and integrate the art of dance and voice that have always been part of the musical genre.
